DSD and SVDP Austin Council members have been on the ground since the day after the fertilizer plant explosion in this farming community on April 18, 2013. To date, over 500 households received case management services. More than 200 families received assistance through the House in a Box Program. SVDP is working with City of West leaders on a “Bridges to Sustainable Communities” private grant. The Austin Council started a new SVDP Conference in West after the residents saw the good work of the Society and the need for it in the community. The DSD has one staff member working on this project. Catholic Charities of Central Texas also has been a major partner in this recovery effort.
